Can a Shopify App Run My Google Ads?
Answered 15 October 2026 · Written and reviewed by Christopher Krassnig
A Shopify app can set up and run a basic Google Ads campaign, like the Performance Max campaign Google's own Shopify app creates, but with fewer controls than Google Ads itself. Scaley is not a Shopify app. Scaley Media Buyer, which we build at ZenoX Media, reads your account read-only for $99/mo + 1% of total ad spend.
What a Shopify App Can Do
Most Google Ads apps on Shopify do one of three jobs.
Connect. Google's own Google & YouTube app for Shopify syncs your products to Merchant Center and sets up tracking.
Launch. The same app can create a Performance Max campaign for you. Other apps build campaigns too.
Run. Some apps go further and change bids and budgets on their own. Before you install one, check its listing for one thing: does it change your ads without asking you first?
What to Keep in Google Ads Itself
Google Ads gives you control the Shopify app does not: the search terms report, product groups and budgets per campaign.
So a common setup is the app for the connection and Google Ads for the campaigns. That way the products sync on their own, and you still see which searches spend the money.
Whatever runs the ads, keep the account in your own name. If an app or a person leaves, the history stays with you.
Where Scaley Fits
Scaley is not on the Shopify App Store. You connect Google Ads with Google's own sign-in.
Scaley Media Buyer, at $99/mo + 1% of total ad spend, is read-only. It answers when you ask and has a one-click audit that lists the waste. It never changes a setting.
Scaley Suite, at $199/mo + 4% of total ad spend, also reads your Shopify store read-only for products, margins and orders. It shows waste every day and queues each Google Ads change for your yes. Only the Scaley Suite writes to an account, and only after an individual yes from you.
