What Does the Google & YouTube App for Shopify Do?
Answered 15 October 2026 · Written and reviewed by Christopher Krassnig
The Google & YouTube app for Shopify, made by Google, syncs your products to Merchant Center, adds Google's tags and sets up purchase tracking. It is free to install, and ad spend is billed by Google Ads. Scaley Suite, which we build at ZenoX Media, works on top of it from $199/mo + 4% of total ad spend.
The Three Jobs It Does
Product sync. The app sends your products, deals and shipping to Merchant Center. That feed is what Shopping ads and free listings run on.
Tags. It adds Google's tags to your store, so Google Ads can see what people do after the click.
Purchase tracking. It can set up the purchase conversion for you. Google's help pages tell Shopify users to remove old tags after setting it up, so a sale is not counted twice.
It can also create a Performance Max campaign for you.
What It Costs and What It Leaves Out
The app is free to install. Its App Store listing says extra charges may apply, and that ad spend is billed straight to your Google Ads account.
It links one Google Ads account directly. More accounts take manual setup.
The bigger limit is control. Google Ads itself gives you search terms, product groups and budgets that the app does not. So most stores use the app for the connection and run the campaigns inside Google Ads.
Where Scaley Fits
Scaley is not a Shopify app and does not replace Google's. Keep the app sending your products to Merchant Center.
Scaley Suite connects to your Google Ads account and reads your Shopify store read-only, for products, margins and orders. It cannot edit a product, a price or your stock. It shows waste every day and queues each Google Ads change for your yes. It costs $199/mo + 4% of total ad spend.
Scaley Media Buyer, at $99/mo + 1% of total ad spend, reads Google Ads read-only and answers when you ask.
