What Can You Automate in Google Ads?

Answered 15 October 2026 · Written and reviewed by

The Short Answer

In Google Ads you can automate bids, budget spread, ads and even applying Google's own recommendations. Smart Bidding alone has 4 strategies. What you cannot hand over is the business call. Scaley Suite, which we build at ZenoX Media, adds a daily waste check that queues each fix for your yes.

What Google Automates for You

Bids are the big one. Smart Bidding sets a bid in every auction. Google says it can use signals like the device, the location, the time of day and the words in the search. It comes in 4 strategies: Target CPA, Target ROAS, Maximize conversions and Maximize conversion value.

Performance Max automates where the money goes. You give it one budget, a goal, your products and your assets. Google decides which of its places shows the ad.

Recommendations can apply themselves too. Turn on auto-apply and Google applies the ones you picked on a regular basis.

Scripts are the do-it-yourself layer. A script is a small piece of code that runs a job in your account for you, like a report or a check.

What Should Stay With You

Automation is good at the maths. It is weak at the business.

Google does not know which product has a thin margin, which one is about to sell out, or that you are running a sale next week. So three calls stay yours: which products get the budget, when to spend more, and what the offer is.

Tracking comes first. Smart Bidding learns from your conversions. If a sale counts twice, or not at all, every automated bid learns the wrong lesson.

Where Scaley Fits

Scaley does not replace Google's automation. It checks it.

Scaley Suite reads the account and your products every day. It finds dead search terms and products, and writes each fix down with the reason. It can also propose a budget raise for a winner. Only the Scaley Suite writes to an account, and only after an individual yes from you. It costs $199/mo + 4% of total ad spend.

Scaley Media Buyer is the read-only level, at $99/mo + 1% of total ad spend. It answers when you ask and has a one-click audit that lists the waste. It never changes a setting.

If you would rather write your own rules, a rules engine or your own scripts can do that. That is a fair choice when you have the time to build and watch them.

Now There Is Somebody Qualified to Ask

The search terms report is open and the money already moved. Start the 3-day trial and ask where it went.
