Google Ads vs Facebook Ads: Which Is Better?
Answered 8 October 2026 · Written and reviewed by Christopher Krassnig
Neither one is better for every online store. Google shows your ad to people already searching for what you sell. Meta (Facebook and Instagram) shows it to people who are not looking yet. Scaley AI works on Google Ads only, so it helps with the search side, not Meta.
The Real Difference Is Intent
On Google, the person tells you what they want. They type "waterproof hiking boots men" and your ad answers. On Facebook and Instagram, nobody asked. Your ad interrupts a feed, and it has to make someone want the product.
That one difference decides most of the rest. Google is strongest where people already search for the product. Meta is strongest where the product needs to be shown before anyone knows to search for it: new ideas, impulse buys, things people did not know existed.
How Each Auction Works
Both platforms run an auction for every ad slot, and neither one is won on bid alone.
| Question | Google Ads | Meta (Facebook, Instagram) |
|---|---|---|
| What wins | The highest Ad Rank, from 6 main factors | The highest "total value", subject to a price floor |
| The factors | Your bid, ad and landing page quality, expected impact of assets, Ad Rank thresholds, the context of the search, and how competitive the auction is | Your bid, estimated action rates (how likely this person is to act), and ad quality |
| What you pay | Often less than your max bid: just enough to beat the ad below you | Never more than your bid, Meta says |
| Can a better ad beat a bigger bid? | Yes. Google says you can win a higher position at a lower price with relevant keywords, ads and assets | Yes. Meta says a more relevant ad "could win an auction against ads with higher bids" |
Which Is Better for an Online Store?
Lean on Google when people already search for your product or your category, when you sell from a product feed (Google Shopping puts the photo and price right in the results), and when your margin can pay for a click from a ready buyer.
Lean on Meta when the product is new or visual and nobody searches for it yet, when you need to find a first audience, and when you have strong video or photos.
Many stores run both, and they help each other. Meta can make people want the product, and Google can catch them when they search for it later. That is also why each platform's own report tends to claim some of the same sales. Judge the pair by your blended ROAS: all store revenue divided by all ad spend.
What It Costs
There is no fair price comparison to quote. Both auctions price each slot live, from your bid, your ad quality and the competition at that moment. A click or 1,000 views can cost very different amounts for two stores on the same day.
So test small on both with the same goal and the same tracking, then compare cost per sale, not cost per click. A cheap click that never buys is the most expensive kind.
Where We Stand, and Where Meta Wins
We build Scaley AI, and it only works on Google Ads. So read this page knowing our bias. Scaley Consultant answers from screenshots, Scaley Media Buyer reads your live Google Ads account read-only, and Scaley Suite proposes Google Ads changes and waits for your yes on each one.
None of that helps on Meta. If your product only sells when people see it in a feed first, Meta may be the better place for most of your first budget, and no Google tool changes that.
Common Questions
Is it better to run ads on Facebook or Google?
It depends on your product. Google wins when people already search for it. Meta wins when people need to see it before they know they want it. Many stores use both.
How much do Facebook Ads cost per 1,000 views?
There is no set price. Meta prices each impression in a live auction from your bid, how likely people are to act, and ad quality, with a price floor.
Is Google Ads or Meta better for dropshipping?
It depends on the product. Google works when people already search for what you sell, and Google Shopping needs a clean product feed. Meta works for new, visual products nobody searches for yet. Our dropshipping hub covers the Google side in full.
Should I run Google Ads and Facebook Ads at the same time?
Many stores do. Judge them together with blended ROAS, because each platform's report can claim some of the same sales.
