What Is PPC Reporting?

Answered 20 August 2026 · Written and reviewed by Chris Krassnig

The Short Answer

PPC reporting is turning raw ad account data into something a person can decide from: spend, conversions, revenue, and what changed since last time. Google Ads builds and emails reports for free. Scaley AI adds the margin layer and still writes nothing to your account. We build Scaley, so weigh that.

What Google Ads Already Reports for Free

Before you buy anything, open the Reports section inside Google Ads. Google's own description is that "you can engage with your data through multi-dimensional tables and charts" and that you can "quickly build and manipulate multi-dimensional tables". You can also "email or schedule an email of your report", which covers the single most common reason people buy reporting software: getting the same numbers to the same inbox every Monday without doing it by hand.

For one account, that is usually the whole job. A saved report, scheduled weekly, sent to you and whoever else cares. It costs nothing and it is already in the account you are paying for.

What Belongs in a PPC Report

Four blocks, in this order, and the order is the point.

Money. Spend, revenue, ROAS, and the change against the same period last month. Not against yesterday, which is noise.

Cause. What actually moved: which campaigns, which products, which search terms. A report that says ROAS fell 12% and stops is a fire alarm with no address.

Actions taken. What you or the software changed since the last report, and what happened afterwards. This is the block almost every report skips, and it is the one that makes the next decision possible.

What is next. Two or three moves with a reason attached. A report nobody can act on is a receipt, not a report.

The Numbers Most PPC Reports Leave Out

Three, and every one of them changes the answer.

Margin. A report showing revenue treats a 60% margin bestseller and a 9% margin loss-leader as the same euro. Google does not know the difference either, because your feed never told it.

New customers versus repeat. A 4x ROAS made entirely of people who would have bought anyway is not growth, it is a rebate on your own customer list.

Wasted spend, named. Not a total. The actual search terms, placements and products that spent money and returned nothing, listed so somebody can go and kill them.

Those three are stated as operating judgement from running ecom accounts, not as a measured study. They are the gaps we keep finding, not a statistic.

When a Reporting Tool Earns Its Money, and Where Scaley Fits

Buy reporting software when you are reporting to somebody else, across more than one account. That is the real trigger, and the tools are built for it. Optmyzr's own pricing page lists "Single Account Performance Dashboards", "White Labeled Shareable Dashboards", "Cross-Platform / Multi-Account Portfolio Dashboards" and "Automated Report Delivery" varying by plan. If you run twelve client accounts and have to send twelve branded PDFs a month, that is exactly the shape you want and Google's built-in reports will not do it.

Scaley AI is not that tool, and it is worth being blunt about it. There is a unified analytics dashboard in the plan. It shows live spend, ROAS and new-customer numbers at the top, flags a drop before the monthly report does, and carries weekly reports and a creative performance view. It reads your account and never writes to it. There is no white-label mode and no client PDF builder. We build Scaley, so weigh that.

What Scaley adds instead is the margin layer the report is missing. It tags every SKU by margin and velocity and syncs those tags into your Merchant Center custom labels. It also names the search terms, placements and loss-making products burning budget, with the evidence attached, so the report ends in a decision instead of a number. Nothing is written to the account until you approve it. The receipts behind it belong to ZenoX Media, our sister Google Ads agency, rated 4.8 from 38 verified client reviews on Trustpilot. Agency reviews, not Scaley product reviews.

Who should not buy anything: one account, one reader, one weekly email. Google's scheduled report does that today for nothing.
