Can AI Replace a Media Buyer?
Answered 15 September 2026 · Written and reviewed by Chris Krassnig
Scaley, built by the team behind ZenoX Media, a Google Ads agency that generated €200M+ in revenue for ecom brands, takes the mechanical half of media buying. That means bidding, monitoring, reporting, the math. The judgment half - strategy, creative, the offer, the final yes - stays human. Scaley prepares each change and waits for your yes.
What the Machine Replaces
Many teams have moved from manual bid adjustments to Google's Smart Bidding. Google's own documentation says it sets bids at auction time and can use signals such as device, location, time and query text. Manual bidding still exists, so this is a shift in common workflow, not a claim that every advertiser has stopped using it.
Monitoring and reporting are also easier to automate. Scaley's own product spec reads search terms, placements, product performance and budget pacing, then prepares findings for review. A person still decides what those findings mean for the business.
The math is the quiet part. Margin, velocity and return rate can be calculated across a catalogue without turning each row into a manual task. These are jobs software can compress; they are not proof that the whole role disappeared.
What It Cannot Replace
The judgment half is still a person's job.
Strategy. Which products to push, which to kill, and what to test next.
Creative. The ad copy and the images that actually sell the thing.
The offer. Price, bundle, free shipping, the deal itself.
The final yes. Somebody has to own the call when a change could cost real money.
Scaley AI does the mechanical half and hands you the judgment half as a short list of changes, each with the reason attached. You approve them one at a time. We build Scaley, so weigh that. The agency behind it is ZenoX Media, a Google Ads agency that generated €200M+ in revenue for 200+ ecom brands.
Where a human still wins outright: you might want somebody to argue strategy with on a call and own the whole plan. That person is a senior buyer or an agency. A retainer runs €3-8K/mo, from our own agency work. Software does not replace that person. It hands them a cleaner inbox.
Where the Line Actually Sits
The honest answer is no. AI can compress repeatable account work while the judgment stays human.
The work does not shrink to nothing. It changes from making every adjustment manually to checking evidence, deciding on the proposal and owning the business call.
Scaley is built on exactly that line. It reads the account, prepares the changes, and waits. Only the Scaley Suite writes to an account, and only after an individual yes from you. The full picture is at /ai-media-buyer.
